Deed of sale for property in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from Michael Spencer and Rebecca Spencer to the President and Fellows of Harvard College, June 12, 1697.

In this deed of sale, created on June 12, 1697, Michael Spencer and his wife Rebecca Spencer agreed to sell their property in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the President and Fellows of Harvard College for "the summe of seaventy pounds current money of New England." The property then bordered Harvard's grounds on the northwest corner and consisted of a dwelling house, barn, and orchards, situated on an estimated one-acre lot. This deed of sale stipulates that Isabel Sweetman, Rebecca Spencer's mother and Michael Spencer's mother-in-law, be allowed to remain living in the house on the property "dureing the terme of her naturall life." The deed is signed by Michael and Rebecca Spencer, who attached their own red wax seals to the document.
